Repair or replace

When should you repair, and when should you replace?

Many AC problems do not require immediate replacement. If the system is old, has serious refrigerant leaks, repeated electrical failures, or repair costs close to replacement cost, replacement may be the better option.

Good repair candidates Capacitors, contactors, drains, filters, thermostats, local electrical issues, or simple faults.
Consider replacement Old inefficient systems, major compressor failure, repeated refrigerant leaks, or high repair costs.
Inspect first When the cause is unclear, check airflow, pressure, temperature split, amperage, and control signals first.

If you are deciding between repair and replacement, send photos and the model number before buying equipment.

FAQ

Common questions

Does an AC that is not cooling always need refrigerant?

Not always. Dirty filters, airflow problems, frozen coils, capacitors, and control issues can also cause poor cooling. Low refrigerant usually requires checking for a possible leak.

What should I prepare before mini split installation?

Photos of the room, outdoor wall location, electrical panel, drain route, and preferred brand/model help us judge capacity and installation difficulty.

What commercial HVAC services are available?

We support light commercial AC, rooftop units, heat pumps, filter maintenance, operating checks, troubleshooting, and replacement assistance.

What is the difference between central AC and mini split?

Central AC usually uses ducts and an air handler to serve multiple rooms. Mini splits are often ductless and work well for single rooms, additions, stores, or zone-by-zone comfort.

Do you serve areas outside New York City?

Primary service is New York City and nearby areas. Depending on the project, service may also be available in Long Island, Westchester, nearby New Jersey, and Connecticut.
